if you`re lucky, it`s just the carbon brushes on the fan motor that are exhausted and need to be replaced.
in the FAQ section of this site, this procedure is explained in detail:
changing carbon brushes on fan motor (unfortunaktely, German only - but try using babelfish to translate).
This is the most common cause, since the blower motor is an electric motor that usually is on at all the time and the brushes just wear out.
Check if the blower motor works at all.
