More info here: http://www.audifans.com/twiki/bin/view/Audi/NoStartV8 2231 is the Idle Stabilizer Valve. This is the black Bosh part on the front of the engine, on top of the throttle body. You can remove it by taking off the three acorn nuts and gently dislodging it from the intake manifold (be careful of the gasket.) Now you can clean it with throttle body cleaner (not brake cleaner), which also has lubricant in it. Once you get it reinstalled, check for vacuum leaks; perhaps you get this fault code because the ISV can’t compensate for the vacuum leak.
