I have just noticed that my rev counter does not operate.
How do I find the problem and what do I check / test?

You will have a dry joint (solder connection) in the electronics of your odometer. That's very common. There are instructions available how to re-solder it, but I'm not aware if in English as well...

Terry,
I dont have a good picture of my car that I can send you at the moment but attach one from a few years ago.
My car is black, has 55,000 miles and is more or less unmarked condition. I have owned it since 2008.
I have taken note of the shows and will let you know if I will be able to attend in due coarse.

Tachometer is still not working on the car.
I have removed the Instrument Cluster (IC) and checked all of the solder connections without finding anything that looks like a problem.
Has anyone any suggestions?

On mine I also didn´t see any defect. I just resoldered everything I could and after that it all worked again. As far as I remember it has to be that. If the sensor would be broken the car wouldn´t start. The cold solders are a very very common problem (also on the Audi 100 etc). So Chances are very high that this is your defect.

Bastian, in this case tachometer means Drehzahlmesser! In his first posting he wrote "rev counter"

I have had the instrument cluster board resoldered but the tachometer still does nothing - everything else is working fine on the dashboard.
I would like to trace the wiring back to the engine sensor but I do not have a wiring diagram for the car?
Where is the ECM on the car?
