Hi Guys, New here!
      23/09/2012 18:36

Hi Everyone
I have just saved a 1992 4.L motor v8 from the crusher. Sadly the car is a wreck.
I have built from scratch a Zonda R replica, it was powered by a twin turbo Jag V12 from a 1980 XJS, however I got fed up with spending too much time on the engine and not enough finishing the car. The 1992 Audi V8 turned up yesterday and I set about removing the engine. What a nightmare! In 2 days I have got it stripped down, and ready to take out, just getting the headers off was a real chore What are you supposed to lift the engine with? It doesn't seem to have any lifting hooks
Once its out, i will have to do a service, fit a 36-1 trigger wheel to the front pulley, source a flywheel..

Oh well the things we do

Cheers
Nick

Lifting the engine using a bar, and hooks, connected to front left, and rear right is how they show it in the manual.

I actually the front of the car off, and used a trolley jack and a plank of wood. I had stripped the heads and ancillaries.
It's a light block

Hi Roy
I am using a manual 012 gearbox and am using megasquirt ECU for ignition and fuel.
So if the OEM sensor is on the flywheel, that will have to go for a clutch.

Please correct me if i am wrong and let me know what flywheel I should use. Audi V8s are all new to me!!

V8 with manual gearbox usually have the same sensors like one with automatic gearbox... so you don't need to do more work then necessary

Hi Mark
I got the engine out last night, it was a bit of a fight! I was very suprised to see that the gearbox and torque converter on the donor car are new, there was not a spec of grease or oil, or even dust on the torque converter! and still had the garage's name written on it.
So tonight I start the laborious task of stripping the engine down and cleaning it ready to mount in the kitcar.

I need to drill the block for the turbi drains and find a good source for the turbo feeds.
I also want to reverse the inlet plenum so the inlet is over the cam belt covers, this will simplify the turbo setup and give me more room
The gearbox I am using is an 012 audi 80 box, so i need to find a manual flywheel that will fir. On the jag V12 I machined an Audi 80 flywheel, it worked really well, apparently a VR6 flywheel might work..

Dear All
For your information, I have put some parts for the Audi on ebay,
I took out the gearbox last night and it was rebuilt / replaced very recently and looks amost new - also with the ECU.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200826248187

I have also listed the leather seats, they are fully electric in black leather and in great condition! There is a small tear in the seat of the driver chair about 1cm diameter. These look too good to dump!

The engine ECU is also listed, along with the power steering pump and air con pump, everything looks well maintained. I have listed them cheeply just to get rid of them under username nicktruman

Cheers
Nick
