Audi strikes again...
Bought some spark plugs for the V8. Correct to ETKA, they are the wrong ones. Returned them.
ETKA shows- 101000052AA/HGR7KQC Audi currently only list the audi part number, but cannot actually confirm the spark plug that corresponds to it on their current systems.
So I shall soldier on. But would someone in the know, confirm? ABH V8. 1992 engine.

D´accord!
I took the Magnetti Marelli, cheap and the engine runs allmost perfect. (Much better than with Bosch.)

Another triumph of weirdness.
The plugs I have been using are the ones which were fitted when I bought it. I just hadn't had time and funds to replace them sooner.
Here's the oddity. They were the wrong ones- Bosch Super plus +7, which have a flat sealing face and gasket ring. Consequently, they were actually sealing against the the first step in the plug well, and this means the electrodes had been recessed, instead of being in the combustion chamber.
Here's another oddity- the 3.6L engine that died had similar plugs.
So, now with new (correct) plugs fitted, I should see several improvements.

Yes, I did. A long while back. All the internals are in a box. The cylinder block itself is now a coffee table.
With the new correct plugs, some of the running problems that existed before have gone now. Happy days.

Ok, i want to build a coffeetable too, but with a blown block with a hole in the side.
Was there someting visible that the wrong sparkplugs caused the damage?

The engine died because of damage that probably happened earlier. The spark plugs were just another example of things that had been done wrong.
The original engine seems to have had a cambelt breakage in it's recent history, and a very poor subsequent repair. There were 4 newer valves on the cylinders 1,2. The head faces had been very badly cleaned, leading to headgasket failure. During the stripdown, I found 2 cracks in the block. One small one between a head bolt hole and the water jacket. One bad crack in the main bearing support, from the oilway. And further damage in the bearing support when the centre main shells turned 90˚ It's all in the photos. It wasn't apparent at the time that the wrong plugs were fitted. It only became apparent when I was checking the plugs for the current engine, that the wrong plugs had been fitted to both engines.
