Idle problems 3.6
      23/09/2010 22:32

Hi.
Proud owner of an 1988 Audi V8 (3.6 pt). It has done 250k km.
But now when it is cold it idle is very unstable. it revs up and down from normal idle to low 200´s and some times it stops completely. I am going to change the spark plugs anyway and are suspecting that´s the problem. But any other suggestions are welcome.

Try to clean the idle valve in the front of the engine (top of throttle valve potentiometer) using something like Balistol, in case you have that up there. Just three screws.

You have forgotten,
WD40 i do not think that Ballistol is well known in Norway,
and do not try to clean it with Breakcleaner,
you may damage the beryllium bearings, if they run dry.

Ops, left some stuff out. The throttle response is sluggish at best when the engine is acting up. And it is like this also when at speed. BUT, and it is a big but. When I open up throttle wide open it fixes it self and works fine.

Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

Disconnect the throttle valve regulation connector in front of the engine, below the idle valve, and clean and dry the pins. Often they become wet which can result in such a behavior.

As a first, cheap shot. Next tips follow afterwards

Some Vaccumcleaner Motor have Beryllium Bearings,
the Bearings from the Idlevalve look quite same.
Not the shape but colour of the Material it self.

Of topic or subject, if I need a electric window motor, who should I import the part from, or else a lot of $$$ goes out of my pocket.

Try Ebay.de and ask for shipping to Norway.

no... but only the colour is definitely not the way.... nobody care about what's the material is... do not use breakcleaner because the oil in the bearing... that's the point anyway...
