just a quick translation of what was kindly written by Tony and Kai, mostly to avoid you being frightened of the task. According to Tony, the old swithces and connectors of the ac can be used sa the Navi+ system was available pre-facelift from early 1998. However, you would need a new ac contorller unit, because it is set lower than on the "normal" console, gaining the useful(?) addition of automatic air circulation. When making the conversion, one bar of the dashboard, presumably behind the center console, needs to be repositioned, and it seems that the actual center console is a different part you would need to get hold of.
It also appears that Tony has some of the parts in stock, namely the
